Frequently Asked Questions
General
What is Takt?
Takt is a time tracking app for iPhone that uses iOS Live Activities to display your current tracking session directly on your lock screen, always visible, always within reach. It is designed around the principle that time tracking should require minimal effort: one tap to start, one tap to switch, one tap to stop.
What platforms does Takt support?
Takt is available for iPhone running iOS 18 or later. An Apple Watch companion app is coming soon. Your data syncs across your Apple devices through iCloud.
Does Takt work offline?
Yes. Takt works entirely offline. All tracking happens on your device. If you use iCloud sync, your data will sync automatically when you reconnect to the internet.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Takt works entirely on your device with no account, no login, and no server. Your data syncs across your Apple devices through your own iCloud account.
Features
How does the Live Activity work?
Takt uses iOS Live Activities to keep your current tracking session visible on your lock screen: activity name, color, and running timer, always within reach. It updates in real time so you always know what you're tracking without opening the app. The same session also appears as a compact colored indicator in the Dynamic Island.
Can I use Takt on Apple Watch?
An Apple Watch companion app is coming soon. It will let you start, stop, and switch activities from your wrist, syncing automatically with your iPhone.
What is Takt tracking?
Takt tracking is an optional persistent state that keeps a Live Activity on your lock screen, even when you're not tracking a specific activity. It means the app is always just a tap away, so switching between activities stays effortless. You can start it manually or configure it to activate semi-automatically.
How do tags work?
Tags are optional labels you can attach to any tracking session. They represent projects, clients, or topics, like 'Website Redesign' or 'Client X'. Each time entry has one activity and one optional tag. Tags help you categorize and understand your time at a more granular level.
Can I export my time entries?
Yes. Takt allows you to export your time tracking data for use in spreadsheets, invoicing, or reporting. Your data belongs to you and you can take it with you at any time.
Does Takt have widgets?
Yes. Takt includes home screen and lock screen widgets that show your current tracking status at a glance.
Pricing
How much does Takt cost?
Takt is free to use with 3 activities and 5 tags. For unlimited access, you can subscribe for €1 per month or make a one-time lifetime purchase for €10. If you subscribe for 12 months, Takt becomes yours forever, no more payments needed.
What is loyalty-to-lifetime?
If you subscribe to Takt monthly, every month counts toward lifetime access. After 12 months of subscription (they don't have to be consecutive), Takt becomes yours forever and you can cancel your subscription.
Is Takt really free?
Yes. The free tier includes full time tracking functionality, Live Activity integration, widgets, exports, Takt tracking, and all other features. The only limitation is the number of activities (3) and tags (5) you can have active at the same time. There are no ads, no data collection, and no artificial feature walls.
Can I try premium features before paying?
The premium tier only unlocks more activities and tags. It does not add new features. Every feature in Takt is available on the free tier. You are experiencing the full app from day one.
Privacy
Where is my data stored?
Your time entries are stored locally on your device and optionally synced through your personal iCloud account. Takt has no server and no analytics. We never see your data.
Does Takt collect analytics or tracking data?
No. Takt has no analytics SDK, no tracking pixels, no crash reporting services, and no server. The app runs entirely on your device. We have no way to see your data, your usage patterns, or anything about you.
Can I delete all my data?
Yes. Since all data is stored on your device and your iCloud account, you have full control. You can delete individual time entries within the app, or remove all data by deleting the app. If you use iCloud sync, you can also manage your data through your iCloud settings.
Comparisons
How does Takt compare to Toggl?
Toggl is a full-featured time tracking platform with team management, reporting, and integrations. It offers a free plan but requires an account. Takt is designed for individual use with a focus on simplicity and privacy. There is no account, no server, and pricing starts at free. Takt lives on your lock screen via Live Activity, while Toggl requires opening the app or browser extension.
How is Takt different from Timeular?
Timeular uses a physical dice tracker paired with a subscription app. Takt provides a similar effortless tracking experience using your iPhone's lock screen Live Activity, no extra hardware needed. Takt starts free and a lifetime purchase costs €10.
Takt vs Clockify: what's the difference?
Clockify is a free web-based time tracker designed for teams, with features like project billing, timesheets, and manager approvals. Takt is designed for individuals who want simple, private time tracking on their iPhone. Clockify requires an account and internet connection; Takt works entirely offline with no account needed.
Why not just use a spreadsheet?
You can, and many people do. The challenge is remembering to log your time. Takt solves this by making tracking a single tap and keeping your current session visible on your lock screen. You never forget what you are tracking because it is always in front of you. And if you still want your data in a spreadsheet, Takt lets you export everything as CSV.
